There's a new breed of
'priest' arising in the earth today. "But ye are a chosen generation, a
royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people..." (1Peter 2:9) We
are all called to be priests, not just a select few. This new breed of 'priest'
understands CHANGE. This new breed of 'priest' understands that the LAW has
changed and is fulfilled.
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an
holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him
who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" (1 Peter
2:9 KJV).
Psalm 24 also speaks of this same generation
"Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in
his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up
his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from
the Lord and vindication from God his Savior. Such is the generation of those
who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Lift up your heads, O you
gates; be lifted up you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who
is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates; be lifted up you ancient doors, that the King
of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord Almighty–He is the
King of glory" (NIV).
From these verses we can see that there is a spiritual
generation that has nothing to do with our date of birth. It is the generation
of God’s overcomers, who have been on the earth throughout human history. This
generation transcends 20, 50, 500 or 3,000 years difference in natural age.
We also see from Psalm 24, that it is this spiritual
generation that ushers in the "King of glory." He is being ushered in
through a holy generation that has existed throughout all the ages of man. The
year of our birth does not qualify or disqualify us from being a part of this
generation. Rather it is the attitude of the heart. The famous verse from Joel
that was quoted by Peter in Acts is specifically for both old and young people:
The Apostle Peter, who applied the above verse to his
generation, is part of the same generation that you and I belong to. We are
the generation that seeks His face.
What does it mean to seek His face?
After “two days,” after 2,000 years, He has promised to
“revive” us. He is quickening us, restoring us to life and health. “In”
(during) the Third Day He has determined to “raise us up.” He has roused us
from sleep and empowered us to stand up again.
Now we “live in His sight,” literally, “in His face,” His
presence. We are ascending. We are being raised up to “follow on,” to run after
the Lord in the Most Holy Place. We met with Him as our Savior in the Outer
Court (Acts 4:12). We experienced Him as Baptizer in the Holy Ghost in the Holy
Place (Matt. 3:11; Acts 1:5; 2:1-4). Now we meet with Him yet a third time as
Lord.(face to face)
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a
holy nation, a peculiar people..." (1 Pet. 2:9). A royal priesthood! A
priesthood of kings, and a kingdom of priests! A company of overcomers, who
have power with God and with men! As priests they have power with God, and as
kings they have power with men. As priests they have "access by faith into
this grace" of our holy standing; and as kings they have the power of God
to rule and reign in all circumstances and over all opposing forces. As priests
they can intercede with God on behalf of men; and as kings they can impart life
and power and deliverance to the captive, and set the oppressed free. Such is
the kingdom of Melchizedek. He reigns, but he also intercedes; and in fact he
reigns by interceding. His very power and kingly authority is for the benefit
and sake of others. Jesus said, "All power is given unto me in heaven and
in earth. Go ye therefore..." (Matt. 28:19). And again, "Ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you" (Acts 1:8). He
is King! and Priest! And He has designated His kingly authority and His
priestly authority to such as are of Him and in Him. In this realm the flesh
"profiteth nothing."
Natural advantages, fleshly attainments, racial
distinctions, educational standards, ecclesiastical success--these profit
nothing. This priesthood knows nothing of father, mother, genealogy, beginning
of days nor end of life. It is the sphere and realm of the Spirit of God, a
priesthood and a Kingdom which the Sons of God shall enter into as they grow up
into Christ.
